Located in present-day Ji’an, Gungnaeseong was cleverly built between the flat plains and the mountains, with Hwando Mountain Fortress behind it.

Excavated remains, including royal palace foundations, noble tombs, and wall paintings, confirm Gungnaeseong as not only a seat of power but also a cradle of Goguryeo’s unique aesthetics and beliefs.
